Summer Camping 2018 - Ottawa Family & Newborn Photographer
Is it just me, or did summer show up all at once, like a sac of bricks to the face? The realization that there's only 2 months of summer before back-to-school, is absolutely frightening to me. It's especially frightening when you have summer vacations booked throughout those short two months, cause time flies when you're having fun! Our family fun always includes camping. It's one of our favourite things to do together. So months ago, when the parks calendar became available, I reserved our favourite campsite. We were so excited! The bliss of sleeping in the great outdoors is one of a kind, and there's no better way, in my opinion, to recharge your battery. For me, camping is almost like meditation (well, once we've set-up everything of course). It's a strong connection to nature. It's humbling.
Well, when the time arrived for our trip last week, Ottawa decided to become an inferno, up to 47 degrees Celsius with the humidex! I cannot tell you how disgusted I felt, to be caked in sweat, bug spray, sweat, sunscreen, sweat, dirt, sweat, etc... the entire time. I mean, we love camping and all but this trip was true torture. Thankfully with the beach there, we could go cool off any time we wanted. We survived there with minimal tantrums and whining. Even the kids had minimal tantrums and whining. As uncomfortable as it was for my husband and I, our kids didn't seem to mind. They loved every minute of it. After all, it was an adventure.
For this adventure, I decided to keep the shooting to a minimum, and focus on the environment around us. Here's a little glimpse into our camping trip last week, at Fitzroy Provincial Park.
So tell me, do you have any vacations lined up this summer? Where's your favourite spot?
